Nobel Laureate and Geneticist Say Cancers and Multivitamin Supplements Not a Good Combination

by | Feb 20, 2013

In the January 9th online version of Open Biology, a journal of Great Britain's Royal Society, geneticist and Nobel Prize winner Dr. James Watson is quoted as warning that antioxidants may cause and promote cancer growth rather than curing it. The problem seems to be twofold:

  1. Antioxidants promote cell proliferation, which means that the number of cancerous cells actually increases.
  2. Antioxidants neutralize the cell-killing mechanism that is central to chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

One in three American adults consumes vitamin and antioxidant pills in a variety of combinations, falsely expecting to reduce their risk of cancer.

Multiple websites have reported on this news which is worth your reading if you’re taking any of these supplements in the unwarranted hope that you are reducing your cancer risk.
